We warmly welcome all visitors to the historic waterfront city of Portsmouth. Unfortunately, there is limited daily parking for motorhomes and caravans within the city. On this page you’ll find useful information if you’re arranging a trip to Portsmouth with a motorhome or caravan.
Car parks
Many of our city car parks have height and/or weight restrictions, and might not be suitable for motorhomes or caravans. Also, if your vehicle is bigger than the length or width of the bay, you may not park in a diagonal/echelon parking bay.
There is no overnight car park in Portsmouth for motorhomes, campervans and caravans. If overnight parking is required, please contact caravan sites in the local area.
For day visitors, we recommend using the Seafront D-Day car park on Clarence Esplanade, PO5 3NT. The daily charges are noted on our Car parks page. Please note if you use sat nav to access this car park, you might be directed through the Clean Air Zone. Important information if you’re driving in a Clean Air Zone.
Pay and display parking
If there’s enough space, you can park a motorhome in horizontal pay and display areas. If your vehicle is bigger than the length or width of the bay, you may not park in a diagonal/echelon parking bay. Please make sure that you have paid the correct fee for your vehicle. There is no overnight street parking in Portsmouth for motorhomes and caravans. If overnight parking is required, please contact caravan sites in the local area.
Parking in a Coach bay
You may not park in Coach Bays, unless your vehicle is classed as a coach or a minibus and able to carry at least 9 people plus the driver.
Parking at Portsmouth International Port
If you’re travelling via Portsmouth International Port, there is a small amount of parking space that can be used for motorhomes and caravans before the early morning sailings. Vehicles are allowed to park along the yellow fence line after 10pm. Please report to Security on arrival.

If you’re travelling via Wightlink, there is a small amount of parking space available at Portsmouth Gunwharf before sailings.

Driving through a Clean Air Zone
Please also note that Portsmouth has a Clean Air Zone (CAZ). Charges may apply for your motorhome if you enter the Clean Air Zone. For more information and to find out if charges apply for your vehicle, please check the Government website.
Paying for parking
Please do make sure that you pay the correct fee for the daily parking of your vehicle(s). If you don’t, you might receive a penalty charge notice.
