Landlord and tenant mediation service

If you’re having problems with your landlord or tenant, there’s a free service in Portsmouth that can help. It’s called the landlord and tenant mediation service.

This service gives free and fair advice to both landlords and tenants. It can help with things like rent problems or repairs.

What happens next

• You’ll get a first meeting to talk about the problem.
• If the service can help, they’ll ask the other person (landlord or tenant) if they want to join in.
• If both sides agree, a meeting will be set up to talk things through.

A trained helper (called a mediator) will:

• Listen to both sides
• Help you understand the problem
• Find a way forward that works for everyone

This is called a restorative approach. It means talking things through calmly and fixing problems together.

You can also get help from other local groups if you need more support. The team can point you in the right direction.
