About the project

On Wednesday 5 August 2026, a decision was agreed at the Housing and Tackling Homelessness Cabinet meeting.

Following the decision, the proposal has now been agreed to gradually rehouse residents over the next four years, starting with residents from the top floors where possible.

We know that this is significant news and appreciate that you may feel worried or uncertain about what this could mean for you and your family. Please be reassured that changes will happen gradually over a number of years.

As a next step, our team will begin contacting residents on the top floors to discuss their individual future housing needs, who lives in their household, and the support available to help them move.

Once this is completed, residents will be added to the Portsmouth Housing Register. We hope to offer suitable alternative homes by spring 2027, depending on the availability of homes in their preferred areas.

The team will continue contacting residents at the appropriate moment. Residents will be added to the Portsmouth Housing Register in stages rather than all at once. This planned approach is why it is expected to take around four years to help all residents move to suitable homes.
