Leaf it Out garden waste collection
We collect brown bins and garden waste sacks every two weeks. Check your collection day – it may be different from your rubbish, recycling, or food waste collection day.
Put your bin or sacks at the edge of your property where it meets the pavement, by 6am on your collection day (or the night before).
Garden waste must be loose in the bin. Do not use plastic bags.
We collect:
- leaves
- grass cuttings
- hedge and tree cuttings
- woody material under 10cm (4 inches) in diameter
We do not collect:
- logs or large branches bigger than 10cm (4 inches) in diameter
- food waste such as vegetable peelings or large amounts of windfall fruit
- animal waste such as droppings or animal bedding
- soil, hardcore, bricks, paving slabs or other landscaping materials
Take items we cannot collect to the Household Waste Recycling Centre.
Missed bin collection
If your garden waste collection is missed, report it within 2 working days. You can report it online, email leafitout@portsmouthcc.gov.uk, or call 023 9284 1105 and select option 4.
Assisted bin collection
If you need help putting your bins out due to mobility issues, you can request an assisted bin collection.
