To be eligible for a disabled parking bay, you must have a Blue Badge.

You can apply for parking bay outside your home if you meet both criteria:

  • you do not have off-street parking, such as a garage or driveway
  • you are the driver or the driver lives with you

Any Blue Badge holder can use a disabled parking bay, even if they did not apply for it.

Special circumstances

You can still apply for a disabled parking bay even if you do not receive any of these:

  • the higher rate of the mobility component of Disability Living Allowance
  • 8 points or more in the Moving Around descriptor of Personal Independence Payment
  • 10 points for descriptor E ‘Cannot undertake any journey because it would cause overwhelming psychological distress’ under the Planning and Following a Journey component
  • a War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement

The application pack for a disabled parking bay includes a medical form. If you don’t pass the medical criteria listed on the form, but have a long-term disability that means you can’t walk or that walking is extremely difficult for you, you can take the form to your GP.

The GP can give us evidence to support your application. Some GPs may charge you for this.
