FJ – Stamshaw North – parking zone information

You can park within the FJ zone which operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The roads within the FJ zone are:

Stamshaw Road (between its junction with Penrose Close and its junction with Twyford Avenue)

If you’re ever unsure about where you’re parking, please check the parking zone signs that clearly state which zone you are parked in and the times of operation.

From Monday 13 November 2023, you can easily apply online for a resident permit for your address.

To apply visit our apply for or renew a parking permit form. Complete the online form, uploading your proof documents and make payment.  Further information on this can be found on our permit page. Your permit will be authorised automatically if the correct documents have been provided and payment made.

When applying, please make sure you change the start date of your permit to  11 December 2023. If you do not do this your permit will start before the scheme starts.

There is a free parking period of 2 hours where any vehicle can park without needing a permit.  In Osier Close alongside the allotments, there is a free parking period of 4 hours.  Please check the signs where you park if you are not sure whether the free period is 2 hours or 4 hours.

If a vehicle needs to park for longer than the free period, then a permit will be required.

Permits are not required to park in the private parking bays outside the residential properties in Osier Close (behind the double yellow lines), but permits are required to park in the parking bays at the southern end of that section of road, 4 spaces marked with broken white lines.

Your permit only works within your parking zone.

The signs on the road will help show you which zone you are in and the times of operation.

You can park in other areas when that area’s zone is not operating.

Permits are virtual (electronic) so you will not have anything to put in your vehicle.

Enforcement Officers will check vehicle registration plates to see whether they have permits.

You will receive a confirmation email a few minutes after you apply. This will give you the details of your virtual permit.  If it does not appear, please check your junk or spam folder.

Please send a letter to the Parking team requesting a permit with a copy (do not send originals) of the proof documents, appropriate payment (cheques should be made payable to Portsmouth City Council) and your contact details (this should be a telephone number and or email).

Paper applications can be sent in straight away, but must be submitted by Friday 1 December 2023, otherwise you may not have a valid permit when the scheme starts.

Please note that the vehicle must be registered to you and to an address within the parking zone to qualify for a permit.

We carry out a consultation with businesses and residents before a decision is made about whether a zone should be implemented.  The findings from the initial consultation in this area confirmed that the majority of people that responded whose property was within the zone were in favour of a residential parking zone.  This information was then used to make a recommendation to create the zone that was approved at the Transport decision meeting on 10 August 2023.
