Homelessness – if you have experienced domestic abuse
This page has specific advice for people who are experiencing domestic abuse and are homeless or worried about becoming homeless.
How the Council can help
If are experiencing domestic abuse, you have options and support available. The council can help you explore what’s safest and best for your situation, whether that means staying in your home with additional safety measures or finding alternative accommodation. We’ll work with you to understand your situation, assess risk, and provide advice and support tailored to your needs. You can approach any local authority in England and Wales for assistance if you are at risk in the area you are living.
The council will not contact the perpetrator as part of our enquiries, and you are not under any obligation to pursue any assistance you may be offered.
Part of our support may be searching for a suitable refuge space. You can also contact refuge services directly for accommodation-based support by contacting Stop Domestic Abuse on 0330 0533 630 and/or Refuge charity on 0808 2000 247.
You can find more help on our domestic and sexual abuse page.
