Different types of health screening

Overview of NHS screening programmes and what they check for at different life stages.

Diabetic eye screening

Diabetes can damage the small blood vessels in your eyes. Screening helps find problems early before your sight is affected.

If you have diabetes and are over 12 years old, you’ll be invited for a screening every year. Your first appointment will be within three months of diagnosis.

Screening is run by Care UK and takes place at St Mary’s Hospital and other local clinics. A mobile service is also available.
