Different types of health screening

Overview of NHS screening programmes and what they check for at different life stages.

Breast cancer screening

Breast screening helps find cancer early, when it’s easier to treat. You’ll be invited every three years if you’re aged 50 to 70 and registered with a GP.

You may get your first invite between ages 50 and 53. Women aged 47 to 49 may also be invited. If you’re over 70, you can request a screening appointment.

Screening takes place at:

  • Queen Alexandra Hospital
  • Mobile units at Asda Fratton and Sainsbury’s Farlington

To rearrange your appointment, call 023 9222 2112.

If you have a disability or use a wheelchair, the team will help you find the best place to be screened.
