Antenatal and newborn screening
During pregnancy, you’ll be offered tests to check your health and your baby’s development. These include:
- Blood tests
- Ultrasound scans
- Tests for conditions like Down’s syndrome
After birth, your baby will be offered:
- A blood spot test
- A hearing test
You’ll be asked to give your consent before each test. Your midwife will explain what each test is for and help you decide.
If any test shows a possible problem, you may be offered more tests to find out more.
