I will need assistance to carry my waste, can staff help me?
If you require assistance, please ask a member of staff.
Does my vehicle need to be registered?
No, you don’t need to register your vehicle to access the HWRC.
How long in advance can I book an appointment?
- Appointments can be booked up to 7 days in advance, dates further than 7 days in advance will be shown as unavailable.
- Appointments will be available in half hour time slots between 9am and 6pm.
What time do I need to arrive?
You can book an appointment in 30-minute time slots. This does not mean you have 30 minutes to unload. Other vehicles will also be booked in the same time slot. The 30-minute time slot means you should arrive within that 30-minute window. For example, if you booked an appointment from 9:00 to 9:30, you cannot arrive earlier than 9:00 or later than 9:30. We ask you to unload as quickly and safely as possible.
There are no breaks between time slots, and people from earlier slots may still be on site. If you arrive early, site staff may ask you to re-join the queue or come back at your appointment time. If you arrive late, site staff may turn you away.
I don’t have a car so I can only walk in waste, why is this not allowed?
The practice of pedestrians walking into HWRCs has always been discouraged and we would always politely advise that waste is not walked into any site. However, bikes can now book using the booking system.
Will I still need to queue once I get to the site?
To minimise queues, there is a limited number of spaces available for each half hour time slot, however there may still be a queue to enter the site.
What if I want to hire a vehicle and don’t know the vehicle registration at the time of booking?
When booking online, type ‘HIRE VAN’ or ‘HIRE VEHICLE’ in the vehicle registration box. The website will remember this when you arrive. Please bring your hire agreement or paperwork with you when you visit.
Can I use my van?
Please visit the getting an HWRC permit for your van or trailer page to check if you can use a specific vehicle and if it requires a permit.
Is there a limit on the number of visits to the HWRC?
If you use a personal car and dispose of personal waste, there is no limit to the number of visits to the HWRC.
If you use a commercial vehicle to dispose of personal waste, you will need a permit which will allow you up to 12 visits a year.
