Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) bookings and permits are now digital.
If you live in Portsmouth (PO1 to PO6 and some PO7 addresses) and cannot use the booking or permit system online, call us on 023 9284 1105, and select option 5 for HWRC enquiries (including bookings and permits).
Booking a visit
Before you visit the HWRC, you must book an appointment online.
When you book, the system will confirm if your vehicle has a valid permit. Each booking counts as one of the 12 visits included with your permit.
You can check if your vehicle needs a permit. Get a permit for your own van or trailer.
Have your booking confirmation ready for site staff to check – this is important if you booked a same-day appointment.
Change or cancel your booking
You can cancel your booking using the link in your confirmation email.
If you need to amend your booking, call 023 9284 1105 (select option 5 for HWRC enquires).
Before you visit
Make sure you separate different types of recycling materials before you visit, especially anything you need to pay to dispose of.
Do not arrive early. There are no breaks between time slots, and people from earlier slots may still be on site. Site staff may ask you to re-join the queue or come back at your appointment time. If you arrive late, site staff may turn you away.
Restrictions on site
To keep everyone safe, you cannot bring waste in on foot. You can book a spot for your bike.
Only a few vehicles can enter the site at a time, and staff will check this at the entrance.
Commercial vehicles are permitted if it is a residents’ only means of transport, and they have a valid van permit.
There might be queues, so please be patient. Staff will not tolerate any abuse and will be wearing body cameras.
Opening hours
The site is open 7 days a week except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day when the site is closed.
Opening hours are:
- 1 October to 28 February – 9am to 4pm
- 1 March to 31 March – 9am to 5pm
- 1 April to 30 September – 9am to 6pm
The site is closed every day from 1pm to 1.30pm.
