Portsmouth’s seafront runs for four miles from Old Portsmouth to Eastney conservation area. It’s one of the city’s most popular area, especially in good weather and during events.
It includes beaches, historic defences, open green space and a long promenade with views across the Solent. Southsea Common and Canoe Lake Park sit alongside the seafront, providing space for walking, picnics and designated barbecue areas.
We want everyone to enjoy their visit safely and responsibly. Teams across the council work with partners to keep the seafront clean, safe and welcoming, particularly during busier periods.
You can help by planning your journey, following guidance on things like BBQs and litter, and being considerate of others using the space.
This page provides practical information to help you plan your visit, including travel, facilities, safety advice and guidance on using the seafront responsibly. Â There is also important information about water safety, water quality, wildlife and temporary changes during events that can affect access along the seafront.
You can also read the latest Seafront Newsletter, which includes a calendar of events.
