Some beaches in Portsmouth have restrictions on where and when you can walk your dog.

Following the Southsea Coastal Scheme works, more beach space is now available for dog walking at the western end of the seafront.

You can walk your dog all year round in these areas:

  • west – between Hovertravel and the Pyramids
  • east – Eastney beach up to the Coffee Cup

Do not walk your dog on the main beach between the Pyramids and the Coffee Cup from Friday 1 May to Wednesday 30 September, 2026. Dogs are allowed in this area again from 1 October, 2026.

Look out for the yellow signs along the seafront to see where dogs are allowed, and please be considerate of other people enjoying the beach.

There are lots of other dog-friendly spots along the coastline and around the city to explore with four-legged friends during the restricted period.
