The seafront is very popular, especially in good weather and during events. Parking spaces are limited and roads can often become very congested, resulting in frustration and delays. That why we work with partners to keep improving how people can get there and move around it.
Park and Ride
During the summer, the PR3 Park & Ride service from Tipner provides a direct route to the seafront at weekends. This is a simple, low-cost way to avoid traffic and parking in busy areas.

Train services
Take the train, with a short bus ride or walk to the seafront, from either Portsmouth and Southsea or Portsmouth Harbour
Walking and cycling
Portsmouth is a compact, mostly flat city, making it easy to reach the seafront on foot or by bike. Walking and cycling can be a convenient alternative to driving, particularly during busy periods and major events. Dedicated cycle lanes are available along parts of the seafront, with cycle parking located at key destinations and attractions.
Once you arrive, there are miles of coastal routes to enjoy. The Millennium Promenade links Portsmouth Historic Dockyard with Southsea Castle, while the King Charles III England Coast Path follows the shoreline, offering views across the Solent and easy access to many of the city’s attractions and open spaces.
