Bus lanes should only be used by buses, cyclists, hackney taxis and emergency services.
The only other times you can use a bus lane is if:
- doing so will prevent an accident from happening, or
- you’re directed to do so by the police or a Civil Enforcement Officer.
Portsmouth City Council registered Private Hire vehicles can also use the following Bus Lanes:
- Cavell Drive
- Marketway
- Queen Street
- Bishop Crispian Way
- Mile End Road
We’ve installed cameras on bus lanes across the city. Drivers who illegally use bus lanes will risk being caught on camera. The fine is £70 (reduced to £35 if paid within 21 days). If you get a bus lane penalty, details about how to pay will be on the PCN that you’ll receive in the post. More information on PCNs
Note: if one of the wheels is fully over the line, the vehicle is in the bus lane.
