Anyone with a PO or SO postcode can get 25% off on-the-door ticket price to the museum, in Clarence Esplanade, Southsea – just present proof of address when you purchase your ticket at the front desk.

Portsmouth City Council Leader Cllr Steve Pitt said:

“Portsmouth is so lucky to have what is the only museum in the UK dedicated to the story of D-Day, the huge preparations, the Battle of Normandy and its legacy.

“I hope local residents will take advantage of this fantastic offer to come and explore the last surviving Landing Craft Tank from D-Day, the hand-stitched Overlord Embroidery, and so much more at The D-Day Story.”

Led by VisitEngland, English Tourism Week is held each year to raise awareness of the importance of the tourism sector, showcasing its importance to local communities and economies.

The theme this year’s is ‘support people and places to drive growth.’

Also running from 15 – 23 March is National Lottery Open Week, which is a way for National Lottery-funded venues to say thank you to players for raising money for projects and good causes. During that week The D-Day Story is offering free entry for one adult or senior per National Lottery Ticket or scratchcard (bringing with them a Lottery ticket or any National Lottery game, either physical or online).

The redevelopment of the museum in 2018 and the restoration of LCT 7074 was funded with money from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. It is currently supporting a live project called Hampshire’s Hidden D-Day, which over the coming months will look to research the numerous troop marshalling camps located across Hampshire which played a role in the D-Day landings.
