In-year applications are for applying for a school place in Portsmouth for entry to any year group at other times of the school year (i.e. not starting school, junior transfer or secondary transfer in September 2024) Please note that in-year applications are processed during term time only.

If you have moved house or are new to the area/country we will need evidence of your home address. If you are new to the country when you are allocated your school place you will need to take evidence of your child’s date of birth to your allocated school as well as evidence of your address.

To Note- we have been experiencing an extremely high volume of in-year applications for Portsmouth Schools which means that in some areas of the city in certain year groups, we now have very few places which may mean your child may have to be allocated to a school further from your home address than may previously have been the case.

We recommend that all applicants put up to 6 preference schools on their application and include their catchment school to get the best chance of being allocated a school as near to home as possible.

We can only process applications with preferences for age appropriate Portsmouth maintained mainstream schools which are listed in the Information for Parents Booklet 2023-24 Pages 64-68. If any other preference schools are listed on your application, they will not be processed.
