In-Year applications are for applying for a school place in Portsmouth for entry to any year group at other times of the school year (i.e. not starting school, junior transfer or secondary transfer in September 2023). You can download our in-year infant, junior or primary application form and in-year secondary application formYou cannot apply online. Please note that In-Year applications are processed during term time only.

How to apply

You can apply by downloading and completing an In-Year application form.

Families who have had to move in to Portsmouth from outside the area must apply for a school place.

If you are unable to download the application form please email us at admissions@portsmouthcc.gov.uk with your child’s name, date of birth and your address and we will send you an application form.

Please note if you wish to apply for St Edmund’s Roman Catholic Secondary School you will need to apply directly to the school using their own application form.

For applications received by Thursday 4pm, we will aim to have outcome letters posted out the following Friday by 1st class post. Sometimes there can be a delay if we have requested information and it is has not been received.

If you have moved house or are new to the area/country we will need evidence of your home address. If you are new to the country we will need evidence of your child’s date of birth (copy of passport or birth certificate etc).

To Note- we are currently experiencing an extremely high volume of in-year applications for Portsmouth Schools which means that in some areas of the city in certain year groups, we now have very few places which may mean you child may have to be allocated to a school further from your home address than may previously have been the case.

We recommend all applicants to put up to 6 preference schools on their application and  include their catchment school to get the best chance of being allocated a school as near to the home as possible
