Special schools support children and young people with the most complex special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). They provide specialist teaching, support and facilities to help pupils access education and achieve their full potential.
Most children attending a special school have an education, health and care (EHC) plan. Special school placements are normally considered as part of the EHC needs assessment and annual review process.
