Lithium batteries and chargers

Not charging or storing devices with lithium ion batteries properly can cause fires, so it’s important you know how to keep safe.

You can tell if a device has lithium ion batteries by reading the manual or finding the symbol Li on it. Common items that use them include:

  • E-scooters or e-bikes
  • Mobility scooters
  • Toothbrushes
  • Air fryers
  • Vaping devices
  • Power tools
  • Smart phones, laptops and tablets

If you’re charging a device with lithium ion batteries:

  • Do not store or charge in communal areas
  • Do not overload sockets or plug extension leads into each other
  • Do not cover when charging
  • Do not charge when sleeping or not home
  • Do not block exit routes with devices
