Running is a great way to get fit, lose weight, build confidence and enjoy the fresh air. If you’ve been thinking about starting, why not join a local group or take part in an event.

Weekly running and walking events
- Run Walk Local offers free, fun and family-friendly events every Sunday at 9.30am from Hilsea Lido – you can choose between a 2k or 5k walk or run.
- Parkrun provides people opportunities to join in by walking, jogging, running, volunteering or cheering others on. It’s free and happens every week.
- Eastney junior parkrun – 2k for children, Sundays at 9.30am
- Southsea parkrun – 5k, Saturdays at 9am
- Great Salterns parkrun – 5k, Saturdays at 9am
- Portsmouth Lakeside parkrun – 5k, Saturdays at 9am
Local running clubs
- Paulsgrove Joggers is a free group which meets every Wednesday at Paulsgrove Community Centre. Email thepaulsgrove.gym@hotmail.co.uk for more information.
- Portsmouth Joggers meets at 1000 Lakeside (main atrium) at 6.50pm for a 7pm start on Tuesdays, Thursdays and weekends.
Open to adults (18 years and over), with groups for different abilities. The club also runs six races each year. Visit the Portsmouth Joggers website. - Southsea Beginners Running Group runs supportive sessions led by a qualified coach to help you go from walking to running. Sessions cost £2 per week with the first session is free. You will also need to join Run in England – for just £20 you will receive one year membership, a T-shirt, logbook, water bottle and newsletters. Call 023 9273 4037 for more information.
