Ground gas, groundwater and imported soils
Ground gases, including methane and carbon dioxide, may present risks to buildings and occupants.
Groundwater may act as both a receptor and a pathway for contamination.
Where soils are imported onto a site, developers must demonstrate that they:
- come from known sources
- meet agreed quality standards
- are suitable for the intended use of the site
Imported soils may require testing and certification before approval.
