By law, all community safety partnerships must regularly check crime and safety issues in their area. This check is called a strategic assessment.

To do this, researchers use lots of information shared through the Portsmouth Information Sharing Framework.

Who provides the data?

Key organisations include:

  • Hampshire Police
  • Portsmouth City Council
  • Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service
  • National Probation Service
  • Local charities and community services

What other data is used?

  • Population data from the Census and local forecasts
  • Substance misuse data from national treatment systems and the Society of St James
  • Crime data from Hampshire Police, national statistics, and comparisons with places like Southampton
  • Reoffending and probation data from the Probation Service
  • Anti-social behaviour data from the police, council teams, and national surveys
  • All this information helps build a clear picture of what’s happening in Portsmouth, so the right actions can be taken.
