Fiona Kelly – Mindful of You

Mindful of You is a bespoke sitting service, created to support those living with dementia and their carers in the Fareham, Portsmouth and surrounding areas. Providing your loved one with companionship, activities, and conversation on a 1-to-1 basis., while you take a break.

Business hours: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

Area: Portsmouth, Fareham

Description of service

I was inspired to create Mindful of You after joining the PCC’s Dementia Walks (now the independent Social Strollers). I learnt just how difficult it can be for the family carer to support their loved one living with dementia and wanted to provide another option of support to extend their support network. A dear friend (and later client) whom I met through the walks suggested my business name! Everything about my service is with the family carer at the heart of the support.

Nearly 60 families and individuals later, people say I must have become an expert. But dementia is too complex for that. After time, you become an expert on the person and family you are supporting, then start all over again with a new client.

I’m very lucky in that the pipe dream of creating my own dementia sitting service has fully come to fruition and I love to provide advise and guidance to new micro providers. It is fantastic work, that really doesn’t feel like work. For me, and my colleagues, it is a vocation.

Safety and training: basic DBS, Public Liability Insurance, and registered with HMRC.

Samual Coe

Hi there. I had been working for a charity that supports adults and children with disabilities, from early 2013 until late 2018. I had three promotions during my time there, most notably in December 2017 when I was promoted to Manager of their respite home. Since then, I have been supporting adults with disabilities privately, one to one out in the community. My outreach service is very person-centred, which gives complete power to those who employ me.

What I love about being a PA: Making a genuine difference to the lives of both the parent(s) and of the service user. Whether it’s helping them to transition into a supported living arrangement, offering temporary respite for the parents or simply giving them new experiences out in the community is what makes this such a rewarding job. My hobbies include rollerblading, videogames and taking my daughter out for daytrips. I also like making YouTube videos; at the moment my content is focused on WWF/WCW Wrestling from the late 90s/early 00s.

Area: based in Cosham

I help: older adults, and adults with disabilities.

I can provide:

  • help in the home or garden
  • social or community support
  • personal care

My approach to care: person-centred. I respond quickly to all communications. I always offer choice. I have a laid back demeanour and the self-awareness that the employer is the one in control (professional boundaries considered).

Safety and training: epilepsy, PROACT, Moving and Handling, Administering Medication, First Aid.

Qualifications: enhanced DBS, Public Liability Insurance, and registered with HMRC.
