Portsmouth City Council is inviting residents to share their views on a series of improvements to walking, cycling, and bus routes delivered across the city over the past few years

The South East Hampshire Rapid Transit (SEHRT) programme is helping to transform how people travel between Portsmouth and surrounding towns. By enhancing public transport with new and improved bus priority routes, as well as safer walking and cycling infrastructure, journeys are now more reliable, accessible, and sustainable.

Portsmouth City Council is inviting residents to share their views on a series of improvements to walking, cycling, and bus routes delivered across the city over the past few years. The SEHRT evaluation survey focuses on the progress achieved to date, and feedback will help shape the next phase of improvements.

Residents can take part in the SEHRT evaluation survey here https://www.research.net/r/SEHRT2025Web

Each scheme delivered so far has strengthened public transport connections and made everyday travel smoother. By developing a network of rapid transit routes, the city is enabling residents and visitors to enjoy reliable, regular bus journeys that connect seamlessly with rail and ferry services – creating an integrated transport system for the region.

Investing in walking, cycling, and public transport also makes it easier for everyone to choose healthier, safer, and more sustainable ways to travel, helping to reduce congestion and improve journey times.

Key upgrades include:

  • Extended bus lanes and safer cycling routes at Rudmore Roundabout.
  • New crossings and cycle paths along Lake Road.
  • Faster bus journeys and improved public spaces in the city centre.
  • Upgraded walking and cycling routes from Fratton Bridge to the city centre.
  • Safer school access and shared paths from Eastern Road to Dundas Lane.
  • Improved cycle lanes and junctions along Goldsmith Avenue.

Each improvement helps strengthen Portsmouth public transport connections, and together they’re making journeys better. This survey is about what’s been achieved so far, and feedback will help shape the next steps.
