Portsmouth City Council will introduce new fares for Portsmouth Park and Ride from 28 September 2025, the first update since the service began in 2014.

The fare adjustment is necessary to ensure the service remains efficient, reliable, and sustainable amid rising operational costs. Despite the increase, Portsmouth Park & Ride continues to offer excellent value for money, especially for groups, families and regular travellers.

The new fare structure for frequent travellers has been streamlined to feature the most popular fares, simplifying choices while providing flexible travel options.

New fare structure for park and ride:

  • Day ticket £5
  • Day ticket with Hoverbus add-on £7
  • 10 trip Flexipass £35
  • 20 trip Flexipass £60
  • 50 trip Flexipass £145

Flexipass options remain the best choice for regular users, offering savings and the freedom to travel on any day within the trip allowance. Each return journey works out at just £2.90 to £3.50 per day, depending on the pass selected.

To get the best value, passengers are encouraged to car share, as up to five people can travel on a single ticket. This makes it a smart and affordable choice for families, friends, and colleagues.

Cllr Peter Candlish, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “We understand that many residents are feeling the pressure of rising living costs, and this decision was not made lightly. However, updating fares is essential to cover increasing operational expenses and to maintain a high-quality, sustainable park & ride service. Our goal is to continue offering a convenient and cost-effective travel option that helps reduce congestion and supports a greener future for Portsmouth.”

Portsmouth Park & Ride continues to be a cost-effective, convenient, and sustainable way to reach the city centre.  Passengers can hop on and off buses throughout the day, avoiding city centre parking costs and contributing to reduced traffic and emissions.

Whether you’re commuting, shopping, or visiting Portsmouth Park & Ride offers a stress free, budget friendly alternative to driving in the city.

First Bus Solent operates the year-round park and ride PR1 service for the Council to Portsmouth city centre and The Hard Interchange from Junction 1 of the M275 near Tipner. During summer weekends, the PR3 service operates a direct route to Old Portsmouth and Southsea seafront which enables visitors to quickly and conveniently reach activities and summer events.
