Today (9 July) a film exploring the relationship between city residents and the sea was screened at Central Library as part of the Diverse Marine Values project that researchers from the University of Portsmouth have been working on.

In May 2022, Portsmouth City Council pledged to consider environmental issues relating to the ocean in our decision-making, and to improve ocean literacy in the local population.

Cllr Kimberly Barrett, Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Greening the City at Portsmouth City Council says: “We’re pleased to work in partnership with the University of Portsmouth on this project and work together to make positive environmental changes in Portsmouth.'”

Dr Victoria Leslie from the University of Portsmouth says: “This event provides an opportunity for participants to reflect on some of the issues facing Portsmouth’s coast and sea, and to showcase ways the Diverse Marine Values team have been exploring diverse relationships between people and the marine and coastal environment.”

The film and more information is on the  Marine Conservation Society website.
