Forest Research, with support from Portsmouth City Council, are collecting views about local trees, woods and forests in Portsmouth.

An online questionnaire asks residents about trees in their local area and across the city, what sort of trees they’d like to see more of, how they think trees in their neighbourhood are managed and much more.

It’s an opportunity for people to share their views on the treescape in Portsmouth and what more they’d like to see. The survey takes between 15 and 20 minutes to complete.

Cllr Matthew Winnington, Cabinet Member for Community Wellbeing, Health and Care, said:

“Trees are so important for our environment, but they’re also important for improving residents’ quality of life – physically and mentally.

“We want to gather residents’ views on the current trees in Portsmouth and the impact green spaces are having, to build a greater understanding and awareness of the trees we already have, the benefits of these trees, and the opportunities we have for the future.”

The online questionnaire will be combined with the results of a tree survey, undertaken by Forest Research and volunteers in June and July. The results of both surveys will be used to help identify any risks to the current treescape and to estimate the value trees provide towards flood alleviation and air quality in the city.

The online questionnaire is open until the end of September and results are expected in the autumn.
