Healthcare waste like syringes, needles and scalpel blades (sharps), should not be put in your regular rubbish. We can collect this type of waste for you.

Request regular collections

To ask for regular collections, complete the healthcare waste referral form. Once we get your form, we will contact you to arrange a collection, usually within six working days.

If you need regular collections (weekly, fortnightly, or monthly), you only need to fill out the form once. We will set up a regular collection service for you.

Request occasional collections

If you need occasional collections, complete the waste referral form once and then request more collections using our online waste collection form or by calling 023 9284 1105.

Request a one-time collection

If you need a one-time collection, complete the healthcare waste referral form.

We will ask if we need to knock on your door to collect the waste or if we can collect it from a safe place like a porch or forecourt.

We can collect

  • sharps or needles contaminated with medicines and which could be infectious
  • sharps or needles contaminated with cytotoxic or cytostatic products which could be infectious
  • bagged waste that is not infectious, or may be infectious but can be treated – this includes waste from home dialysis

We cannot collect

  • sharps or needles that are not contained in a special yellow sharps container – these are supplied by chemists and medical professionals
  • incontinence pads – these should be securely bagged and put in with your normal rubbish
  • used COVID-19 lateral flow device tests, PPE, used tissues and face coverings – these must be placed in your rubbish bin or bags
