Residents in Paulsgrove and Portsea are invited to develop new community wellbeing hubs in their areas.

Health and Care Portsmouth – a partnership between Portsmouth City Council, HIVE Portsmouth and the NHS – are inviting residents to a series of workshops in August that will help shape services that support people’s health and wellbeing.

The work is part of the NHS 10-year plan around neighbourhood health with community wellbeing hubs being piloted in Paulsgrove and Portsea over the next year.

Cllr Matthew Winnington, Cabinet Member for Community Wellbeing, Health and Care, at Portsmouth City Council, and Co-Chair of the Portsmouth Health and Wellbeing Board, said:

“We want to build on work with residents in these two areas to understand what services might support an individual’s health and wellbeing, and work with our residents to develop something locally that would really benefit them and their family.

“What “it” might be exactly is still to be decided, but we hope it can be a trusted local space, designed around local people, where people can access health advice, practical support, community activities, and social connections all in one place. The aim is to make it easier for people to get help, stay healthy, and connect with their community.”

Sessions are taking place in August in Paulsgrove and Portsea, and anyone is invited to attend. Tea, coffee and snacks will be provided.

  • Tuesday 25 August, 12-2pm at John Pounds Community Centre, Portsea
  • Tuesday 25 August, 4-6pm at Paulsgrove Community Centre
  • Thursday 27 August, 12-2pm at Paulsgrove Community Centre
  • Thursday 27 August, 4-6pm at John Pounds Community Centre, Portsea

At the sessions, residents will be asked about the local services that would benefit themselves and/or their family, what a hub should look and feel like, and when and where it should be.

Following the sessions, proposals for the community wellbeing hubs will be presented to the Portsmouth Provider Partnership – a meeting of health and care providers across the city – with pilot community wellbeing hubs expected to begin from October 2026.
