Who we are

The Safer Portsmouth Partnership (SPP) works to make Portsmouth safer by tackling crime and drug or alcohol misuse.

It brings together local organisations to help cut crime, reduce anti‑social behaviour, and stop people committing crimes again. This makes the city a better place to live, work and visit.

In 2019, the SPP became part of Portsmouth’s Health and Wellbeing Board (HWB). The HWB is supported by the Community Safety Subgroup, which helps it do its job.

What we do

Portsmouth City Council works with other key organisations, like the police, fire service, probation service, and the NHS, to look at crime and safety issues in Portsmouth.

By law (the Crime and Disorder Act 1998), we must regularly review local crime trends and priorities. This helps us create a plan to keep the community safe.

We use a public health approach (looking at the whole community to stop problems early) to understand what people need, design the right support, and fund services.

The Safer Portsmouth Partnership (SPP) helps bring together different plans and projects so we can make a bigger impact and avoid repeating work.
