No discount is available if your property is empty, unfurnished and/or undergoing repairs. You will still need to pay the full Council Tax charge.

  • From 1 April 2016, empty and unfurnished discounts have ended completely and will no longer be available. 100% of Council Tax will now be charged for all empty and unfurnished properties within the city. This applies to properties, rather than individual Council Tax payers. This means that if you buy or rent a property you will be liable for the full Council Tax charge from the first day, even if the property is still empty.
  • From 1 April 2020, discounts for empty, unfurnished properties needing or undergoing major repair to make them habitable have ended.  The full Council Tax charge will now be charged for all empty and unfurnished properties in the city, including those requiring major repair.

Please note that unfurnished properties should have sufficient furniture removed to leave the property incapable of occupation. This does not include carpets and curtains.
