Not charging or storing devices with lithium ion batteries properly can cause fires, so it’s important you know how to keep safe.
You can tell if a device has lithium ion batteries by reading the manual or finding the symbol Li on it. Common items that use them include:
- E-scooters or e-bikes
- Mobility scooters
- Toothbrushes
- Air fryers
- Vaping devices
- Power tools
- Smart phones, laptops and tablets
If you’re charging a device with lithium ion batteries:
- Do not store or charge in communal areas
- Do not overload sockets or plug extension leads into each other
- Do not cover when charging
- Do not charge when sleeping or not home
- Do not block exit routes with devices
