If you or someone in your household has a disability or health condition that makes everyday living difficult, Portsmouth Homes can help adapt your home to support independent living.

What’s available

  • Minor adaptations (under £1,000) are free of charge. For example, grab rails and ramps.
  • Major adaptations (over £1,000). For example, wet rooms and stairlifts.

How to apply

Speak to your Occupational Therapist (OT). Once you have a referral from them, the Customer Repairs team can begin to organise the relevant adaptations.

If you do not have an Occupational Therapist, you will need to have an assessment of your needs.

Assessment

All major works require an OT assessment. Major adaptations are subject to an assessment to ensure the property is suitable for adaptations and may require financial. contribution unless exempt.

The council may also consider moving you to a more suitable home if needed.

Read the Portsmouth Homes Aids and Adaptions policy for more information.
