A Body of Persons Approval (BOPA) allows an organisation to have an overall licence for all their performances involving children. This means you don’t need an individual licence for each child.

All performances must comply with the law.

Criteria

To apply for a Body of Persons Approval, you must meet the following criteria:

  • your organisation must have complied with the licensing and performance regulations
  • all performances and rehearsals must take place in the area covered by Portsmouth City Council
  • nobody should receive payment for taking part in the performance
  • your organisation must have a child safeguarding policy
  • licenced chaperones must be present

How to apply

You must apply at least 21 days before the first performance.

You can apply online for a BOPA licence.

When you apply, your organisation must provide:

  • a completed BOPA application form
  • child safeguarding policy
  • risk assessment
  • performance schedule and list of performers

After you apply, we’ll contact you to arrange a meeting and review your application. If your application meets all requirements, we’ll issue a BOPA contract.
