We are a friendly, busy and popular Christian nursery in Southsea for children aged 2-4 years old. We offer a competitive salary and pension scheme, a friendly caring environment in which to work, relevant and free training in a supportive and fun nursery setting.
The role
We are looking to recruit a nursery deputy manager to also act as our SENCO (special educational needs coordinator) for a fixed term contract of 11 months from September 2023 to July 2024 to cover maternity leave. The deputy manager would work closely with and assist the nursery manager to ensure that all children have access to a varied and exciting curriculum, and that their safety is of paramount importance. Participation in staff meetings, regular training and performing staff appraisals and supervisions is essential to ensure staff remain motivated and valued. The deputy would act as manager in their absence, meet with parents and other professionals and assist in the marketing of the nursery in promotional events and showing potential parents around the nursery.
As our SENCO, you would work a few sessions a week in our Nurture Group with our SEND children and also support the staff in this group, ensuring their training needs are met. You would undertake the necessary paperwork to ensure EHCP’s (education and healthcare plans) for example are completed on time by meeting with parents and professionals.

You would have a passion and understanding of working with SEND children and any other children in the setting who may require additional support. If not already a holder of the Level 3 SENCO Accreditation certificate, then a willingness to undertake the 12-week course, spread over 6 months is essential in order to gain this qualification.

- Part time: 30 hours a week over 4 days (Mon, Tues, Thur & Fri) from 9 – 4.30pm term time only.
- Fixed term contract (maternity cover – September 2023 – July 2024)
- Salary range: £15.00 per hour (Gross salary £17,640)
