Portsmouth Music Service inspires children and young people across Portsmouth to discover, enjoy and achieve through music.
Working with schools, families and community partners, we provide high-quality instrumental and vocal tuition, whole class programmes, and musical experiences that are inclusive, accessible and tailored to every stage of a young person's musical journey. Whether taking their first steps in music or developing advanced skills, we help every child find their voice and fulfil their musical potential.
School services
Portsmouth Music Service offers a wide range of high-quality music education services through a service level agreement (SLA), including curriculum and PPA teaching, instrumental and vocal tuition, whole-class instrumental programmes, workshops, clubs, and performance opportunities.

Music lessons
We offer individual and small-group instrumental and vocal lessons through our Music Centre programme. Lessons are delivered by specialist teachers outside school hours. They give children and young people the opportunity to develop their musical skills in a supportive and inspiring environment.
Music Centre lessons take place during term time on weekday evenings from 4pm. A range of instruments is available, subject to teacher and instrument availability.
Instrument hire
We offer an affordable instrument hire scheme for support children and young people who are learning music. Hire fees start from £45 per academic year.
A wide range of instruments are available for pupils living or studying in Portsmouth, subject to availability.
Events and performance opportunities
Portsmouth Music Service delivers a vibrant programme of large-scale concerts, festivals, showcases, and massed choir events throughout the year.
These events provide exciting opportunities for children and young people to perform alongside their peers in prestigious venues, celebrating musical achievement and inspiring a lifelong love of music.
