In 2023, the government introduced the Simpler Recycling policy for England.
This policy will change how recycling is collected. Over time, councils across England will collect the same types of recycling.
What Simpler Recycling means
Simpler Recycling means there will be one consistent list of items that can be recycled. This will apply to:
- households
- businesses
- some public buildings, such as schools and hospitals
The aim is to make recycling clearer and more consistent wherever you live.
What it means for Portsmouth
Portsmouth City Council is working with other councils across Hampshire to introduce these changes.
Recycling collections will not change straight away. The changes will be introduced in stages.
We will update this page when we know what this means for recycling collections in Portsmouth and before any changes happen.
