The City of Portsmouth Sports Council is made up of local sports representatives, council officers and Councillors.
The Sports Council is a forum for discussing current progress and the ongoing development of sport in the city – it is also responsible for Grant Aid.

To celebrate young people’s sporting successes we’ve launched the Portsmouth Young Sports Person of the Year award
The award is open to Portsmouth residents aged 18 and under who are currently competing in sport at a high level. Anyone can nominate a young person for the award; parent, coach, club, school or college. Nominees must be training or members of a club within the city for a sport which is recognised by Sport England.
Grants are for the benefit of Portsmouth residents and Portsmouth clubs and their members, they aim to promote sport and physical activity opportunities.
The three main themes are:
Portsmouth Talented Athlete Access Scheme (PTAAS) is a support programme for Portsmouth residents living in the PO1 – PO6 areas who are currently competing in sport at a high level. The scheme is established by Portsmouth City Council, BH Live and the University of Portsmouth as a commitment to support local people with the talent to compete in sport at the highest levels.
PTAAS allows members to access sports facilities across the city to aid their training. In addition to BH Live-operated centres and the University of Portsmouth, members may choose to access facilities at Highbury College and John Pounds Centre.
