PAT policy

Learn how Portsmouth Homes checks and maintains the electrical appliances we provide to help keep residents safe.

This policy explains how Portsmouth Homes makes sure electrical appliances we provide are safe to use. Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) helps reduce the risk of electric shock and fire and ensures we meet our legal responsibilities.

The policy covers electrical appliances that Portsmouth Homes owns and maintains, including items in residents' homes, communal areas, sheltered housing, supported housing and other buildings we manage. It explains how appliances are inspected and tested, how often checks are carried out, and what happens if an appliance is found to be unsafe.

We take a risk-based approach to testing and will keep residents informed about planned inspections, access requirements and any follow-up actions. We also make reasonable adjustments where needed to support residents.

For full details about appliance safety checks, testing frequencies, responsibilities and how we manage electrical safety risks, read the full policy.
