The council makes sure that equality has an important place in all decision-making process. This is done by using an ‘Equality Impact Assessment’. Recently, the council has developed a new ‘Integrated Impact Assessment‘ (IIA). The purpose of this new assessment is to assess how policies, projects, services, functions or strategies can impact on:

  • Communities and Safety
  • Regeneration and Culture
  • Environment and Public Space
  • Equality and Diversity

The categories and questions in the assessment are based on the council’s priorities and strategies. This new assessment is in line with the agreement to introduce the carbon impact assessments of all decisions (in support of Portsmouth’s Climate Emergency).

The IIA should be used when developing proposals, to make sure the full impact of any policy is considered. When the form is completed and presented with the decision reports, it will help to review both the positive and negative consequences of proposals.
