Biography

Councillor Frank Jonas was born in Milton, Portsmouth on 19th January 1946; he has been married for 52 years to Patricia and has 4 children. Educated in Portsmouth, Councillor Jonas started his working life as an apprentice in the Portsmouth Dockyard
later becoming an engineer. Councillor Jonas used to have a hardware shop in Hilsea, Portsmouth which he ran for 16 years.

Councillor Jonas was elected in May 2006 to represent Hilsea Ward. Councillor Jonas was elected as Lord Mayor of Portsmouth on 18th May 2021, the term of the office being 1 year. This is Councillor Jonas’ third term as Lord Mayor, having been elected to the role in 2012 and 2015. Councillor Jonas will be supported in his role by his sister, Mrs Joy Maddox, as Lady Mayoress.
