We understand that the UK leaving the EU is a complicated matter, and that Parliament hasn’t made an official decision on the outcome yet. Until there is a legal agreement in place, as part of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Local Resilience Forum we continue to make preparations to make sure we are ready if the UK exits the EU without a deal.
For our region the Local Resilience Forum has identified the biggest issues as potential traffic congestion caused by extra checks at the port, and its effect on surrounding communities and roads. Plans were developed earlier this year to ensure the smooth running of operations and these are being updated as we get more information from government about what will be required. We are working hard to ensure lorries are processed and directed quickly so roads are kept clear of congestion.
