Panellists

Marie Costa - Founder & Chair of the African Women's Forum (co-host)

Marie has been a member of various community boards including; the first Portsmouth Local Strategic Partnership, setting up Portsmouth Race Equality Network Organisation, founder member of Africappella choir and Female Genital Mutilation steering group; Board member of the New Theatre Royal, University of Portsmouth and Diversity in Media South.

Marie chaired Portsmouth Multicultural Group for ten years and founded African Women’s Forum in 1995, of which she is the current Chair. Marie helped to found the Portsmouth Black History group whose main aim is to fill the missing gap in the British history in the education system and promote the part played by African and Caribbean people.

Alex Ruddock - Founder of Black Lives Matter Portsmouth (co-host)

Alex Ruddock is the co-founder of Black Lives Matter in Portsmouth. She’s born and raised in the city and is passionate about making sure that black residents have equal opportunities and don’t face discrimination or harassment. Alex also works as a customer service agent for Scottish and Southern Electricity is mum to Nala-Paris who is 5 and a keen young activist too. She enjoys eating out at local restaurants and enjoys shopping from small businesses around the country.

Duke Harrison Hunter - Equality, Inclusion & Diversity Lead at Pompey in the Community

Duke has been Equality, Inclusion and Diversity lead at Pompey in the Community since October 2019. Duke works closely with the No Room For Racism campaign and has been part of local initiatives including One City – Many Cultures which saw schools across the city using age appropriate resources to teach about racism, promote anti-racism and to celebrate difference and diversity.

Midia Medina - Activist

Midia Medina was born in Cape Verde, spent 8 years in Portugal and has been living in UK for the past 9 years. Midia works in finance, alongside her activist work, fighting against racism whenever possible.
