England is now subject to National lockdown: Stay at Home restrictions. You must stay at home.
Your council tax is needed to help pay for lots of services we provide for Portsmouth people, including essential and critical services such as care for vulnerable adults and children and support for homeless people. It also helps to fund police and fire services.
We are also paying more for some critical services that are needed to help the vulnerable during this time of emergency.
We appreciate that many residents are struggling financially at this time and we understand the anxiety this can cause.
At this time we have to target support at those who need it the most. If you are in difficulties, we will do our best to help. Please let us know as soon as you can.
Let us know how your financial situation has been affected by the current crisis and how you would like us to help you – for example, by spreading the cost to include payments in February and March 2021.
If you would prefer to discuss your situation on the phone, please call us on 023 9268 8588. There could be longer waiting times than usual.
If you’re in financial difficulty you can find advice and support here.
If you’re on a low income you could qualify for council tax support. You can find out more and fill in an application form here. During the current crisis, if you are of working age and receive council tax support, there is up to £150 of extra help available.
If you live alone, are a student or have certain disabilities then you may be eligible for a discount or exemption.
If you usually pay your council tax in person, you will now need to do this online or on the phone, because our offices are closed.
