We use CCTV cameras 24 hours a day to help monitor activity in the city centre and other areas of Portsmouth.
You can view a map showing where the cameras are located.
CCTV Code of Practice
You can read the council’s CCTV Code of Practice online. Appendix F includes forms you can use to ask if any CCTV footage or personal data is held about you.
Your rights
You have the right to ask if we hold any personal data about you. You can also ask for a copy of that information, unless:
- it’s not possible to give you a copy
- it would take too much time or effort
- you agree not to receive a copy
We will only give you this information if we are sure of your identity.
If the footage includes other people who can be identified, we will only share it if:
- they have agreed to the footage being shared
- it’s reasonable to share it without their permission
The council’s rights
Portsmouth City Council may refuse access to CCTV footage if the law allows.
We may not share footage if it’s being used for:
- preventing or detecting crime
- catching or prosecuting offenders
If sharing the footage could affect these activities, we may not be able to give it to you.
