Supported internship programme

Access supported internship opportunities to build skills and move into employment.

Run by Portsmouth City Council, the supported internship programme helps young people with special educational needs take a positive step towards paid employment.

The programme builds self-confidence and employability skills through hands-on experience in real workplace settings

Eligibility

Places on the programme are limited. To be eligible, you must:

  • be between 18 and 24 years old
  • have an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP), or have special educational needs and disability (SEND)
  • live in a PO1 to PO6 postcode area

What the programme offers

The programme runs from September to April.

You'll spend three days a week on a work placement at Portsmouth City Council, supported by a job coach. Placement opportunities may include working in a cafĂ©, museum, library, business administration, or warehouse - depending on your interests and goals.

You'll spend the other two days a week at City of Portsmouth College, studying towards a qualification in employability, functional Maths and English.
