Portsmouth City Council’s supported internship programme provides young people (aged 18 – 24 years old) who have an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP) and specialist needs with a steppingstone towards paid work.

The programme helps to develop young people’s self-confidence and employability skills in a real-world setting.

How it works

During the programme, young people will work in a placement for three days a week with the support of a job coach at Portsmouth City Council.

Young people will have the opportunity to work either in a café, a museum or a library. Other opportunities could include business administration and warehouse work, depending on what the young person is looking for.

The other two days of the programme consists of study towards a qualification at the City of Portsmouth College in employability, functional Maths and English.
