If you work with people in the city either as part of your job or as a volunteer, you’ll know all too well that things are tough for people right now. You may notice when someone is struggling and want to do something to help.
You can help by telling people that support is available if they are struggling, and that they are not alone. You can encourage them to use the information on the cost of living help hub to find support, or give them the cost of living helpline number if they are not confident online or their problems are complicated. If you have time, you can use the cost of living checklist to guide them through things to look at to make sure they are maximising their income, and getting help with things like bills, food, and debt.
A quick guide on how to signpost people to support is available, along with a longer guide that includes tips on how to raise the subject of the cost of living with someone you are working with, based on the approach taken by public health professionals around healthy conversations.
