Supporting adults with learning disabilities to live meaningful lives
Russets is a Portsmouth City Council residential and short break service for adults with learning disabilities, autism and associated physical disabilities. We provide a safe, supportive and person-centred environment where people can develop independence, maintain relationships, enjoy new experiences and achieve the outcomes that matter to them.
Located in Hilsea, Portsmouth, Russets provides both permanent residential accommodation and short breaks (respite) for adults who require support with aspects of daily living. The service is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The rating is currently 'Requires Improvement'.
Residential support
Russets provides long-term residential accommodation for adults with learning disabilities and associated support needs. Our aim is to create a welcoming home environment where people feel respected, valued and supported to live fulfilling lives.
Short breaks (respite)
We offer planned short breaks for adults and their families or carers. Short breaks provide opportunities for people to enjoy different experiences, spend time with friends and participate in activities while giving carers a break from their caring responsibilities.
We can also support some unplanned or emergency short stays where an urgent need has been identified and appropriate assessments have been completed.
Russets supports adults with:
- Learning disabilities
- Autism
- Physical disabilities
- Communication needs
- Complex health needs that can be safely supported within a residential care setting without nursing care. We can support people with a wide range of mobility, communication, sensory and personal care needs. Specialist equipment within the service helps us support individuals who require significant physical assistance.
Referrals to Russets are made through Portsmouth Integrated Learning Disability Team. Referrals may be made by social workers, care managers, health professionals or other authorised professionals following an assessment of an individual's care and support needs.
