Following the announcement of a national bank holiday on Monday 19 September to mark the funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, there will be a number of changes to council services
Changes to council services on Monday 19 September
Waste collections
No waste collections will run on Monday 19 September. All collections, except bulky and healthcare collections, will be pushed back by one day and an additional waste collection will take place on Saturday 24 September. The Household Waste Recycling Centre will also be closed on Monday 19 September.

For collections Tuesday to Friday, please ensure your bins are ready by 7am on the day of collection. For collections on Saturday 24 September, please ensure your bins are ready by 6am.
Due to the short notice of the bank holiday and the changes in collection schedule, we are unable to provide some waste services for this Saturday 24 September (the delayed Friday 23 September collections).
The following services will be affected:
- Recycling will not be collected on Saturday 24 September. Please retain your recycling until the next collection date on Friday 7 October.
- Rubbish from communal blocks, will not be collected on Saturday 24 September. Instead it will be collected as soon as possible from Monday 26 September onwards.
Leisure centres
Leisure centres will be closed Monday 19 September.
Libraries
All Portsmouth libraries will be closed on Monday 19 September.
D-Day Story
The D-Day Story museum will be closed on Monday 19 September.
Register Office
Register Office building is closed on Monday 19 September for the Bank Holiday for The Queen’s State Funeral.
It will re-open on Tuesday 20 September from 9am.
The usual Out of Hours system is in place for emergencies only.
